AUGUSTA (AP) – Three men were charged Wednesday with robbing the Vassalboro Credit Union last month and using the stolen money to buy drugs and to gamble.

Maine State Police charged Albert Peaslee Jr., 21, and Jimmy Lee Wilson, 20, both of Augusta, and Jeremy Jones, 26, of Gardiner, with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Jones and Peaslee are accused of using a handgun to rob the credit union of several thousand dollars on Oct. 18, while Wilson drove the getaway car, said Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland.

The suspects are accused of using the money to buy crack cocaine, heroin and household items, and to gamble at Foxwoods casino in Connecticut.

The men were charged with robbery yesterday, but were already in jail on unrelated charges.
