NORWAY – Stone-Smart Post 82, American Legion, Auxiliary met Nov. 10 to celebrate its 85th birthday, and Legionnaires prepared a pork roast supper. Ernest Clifford chaired, with help from Ralph Moulton, Arnie Pendexter and Dave Tilley. Cake and ice cream were served for dessert.

The meeting was called to order by President Donna Pike. Ellen Snow presented the secretary with a list of sports equipment, toys and baby items she has donated in the past month to Community Concepts.

Lucille Allen reported that she presented 15 stuffed animals to the National Guard in Augusta to give to children whose parents are serving in the armed service. Christine Weiss donated the items.

Marjy Sessions noted that unit has a new member, Adrian Detlefsen. Kim Hansen gave a report on field service and passed out information and record sheets, also spoke on poppies.

Lucille Allen gave a report on Beals House and said items presented at the open house was well received. Donations were voted to Western Maine Veterans Home “Caring Tree” to honor all veterans of Post 82, to Salvation Army, to Long Creek Youth Center and Christmas for Teens.

Members voted to remember post veterans at veterans homes, nursing homes or shut-ins at home on Thanksgiving and to remember auxiliary members at Christmas in nursing homes, veterans homes or shut-in.

They will give December and January birthday parties at the veterans home. Marjy Sessions is in charge of purchasing gifts. Donna Pike, Kim Hansen and Joyce Clifford baked for the American Legion national commander’s reception at the Oxford post. Members will help at the Christmas Gift Shop at the Veterans Home on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Members brought gifts for the Christmas Gift Shop in lieu of exchanging gifts at a Christmas party. Pauline Adams gave a wall hanging to the post and unit in memory of her father and brother.
