PARIS – Foster-Carroll Post 72, American Legion, will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the hall in South Paris. The Legion and Auxiliary Christmas party will be held on Friday, Dec. 17, starting with a finger-foods supper at 6 p.m. The women will exchange wrapped gifts and cards.

Funding for the Navy’s Silver Dolphins Marching Drill Team of Groton, Conn.’s submarine school has been cut back and the team was not able to lead the annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade or attend the Thanksgiving feast the unit has held over the past 10 years.

The Legion and Auxiliary put on a well-attended public supper of corned beef and boiled vegetables followed by the Chinese auction on Nov. 13. It netted more than $1,580, due to the teamwork of members and cooks under the direction of Gil Turner, Virginia Gammon, Marilyn Ramsay, Joe and Jean Lamonte.

Two veterans’ families were given gift certificates to buy groceries for Thanksgiving, and donations were made to the Oxford Hills Food Pantry, Christmas for Kids, Christmas for Teens, Togus Phone Fund and the Western Maine Veterans Home Christmas programs.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, there will be gift shopping by the residents of the Veterans Home, and Auxiliary members are needed to wrap the gifts from 9 a.m. through the morning. The Auxiliary now has 114 members paid up, with 12 owing.
