BETHEL – Harp music by Elissa Lufkin wafted through the Dr. Moses Mason House at the annual “Christmas with the Masons” held on Dec. 2 at the Dr. Moses Mason House attended by a steady flow of visitors.

The period house museum was decorated much as it would have been in the early 19th century with fruit, berries and boughs. Hot mulled cider was served from the hearth of the winter kitchen, and the dining room table was laden with holiday treats.

Following the museum experience, a number of visitors adjourned to the Robinson House to see a video, “Barns: Legacy of Wood and Stone,” which will highlight one of the exhibits to be opened in August 2005 from the Smithsonian Institution called “Barn Again!”

The museum shop will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday until Christmas. It contains a wide variety of gift possibilities ranging from local history books, period games, cross-stitch kits, glass paper weights, paintings by local artists and historical videos.

Tickets for the seventh annual New Year’s Bethel are expected to be available this week at the following places: Bethel Historical Society Museum Shop, Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce, the Bethel Citizen, Maine Line Products, Locke Mills, and the Newry Town Office.

Advance tickets are $10 adults and $8 children (ages 6 to 18). At the door they will be $12 adults and $10 children.

Sponsors for the family and community event are still being sought from businesses and individuals. For more information on making a tax-deductible donation, call the society office at 824-2908 or 1-800-824-2910.
