AUBURN – Two more free Pilates workshops will be featured in December at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA.

The YMCA offered three free Pilates workshops that resulted in a lot of interest in the community during November. The December workshop classes are open to anyone who previously attended and anyone who still has an interest in finding out more about Pilates.

The workshops will be run by Tish Caldwell, YMCA wellness coordinator and a certified Pilates instructor.

The free workshops are open to members and nonmembers of the YMCA. The dates and times are from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, and 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16. No registration is necessary.

Pilates is an efficient way of stabilizing and strengthening the body core, arms and legs, while increasing flexibility. Participants see and feel the benefits of Pilates quickly. Each exercise can be customized, allowing anyone to participate regardless of fitness level or where they are in the program.

Caldwell, who has been at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA since 1986, is a registered nurse, cardiac rehab nurse specialist, exercise specialist and is certified in polarity therapy bodywork and integrated yoga.

She continues to train with yoga teachers of varying traditional disciplines and will continue to pursue higher levels of training in Pilates as she incorporates it into the YMCA’s wellness program.
