LEWISTON – The Alzheimer’s Support Group will hold a special meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the SeniorsPlus office, 8 Falcon Road.

The special night will feature Dawn Jepson, Franklin County hypnotist, who will teach relaxation techniques to people who take care of family members or friends suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

All are welcome, and holiday treats will be served.

The group is a program of SeniorsPlus, the area’s agency on aging serving Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. The group meets on the second Monday of each month.

Cancer topic

LEWISTON – “Managing Cancer-Related Fatigue: A Program for Patients and Caregivers” will be the topic of discussion at the Wednesday, Dec. 15, meeting of the Central Maine Medical Center Cancer Wellness and Support Group.

Lucette Robinson, an oncology nurse practitioner and nurse educator, will provide strategies for combating fatigue related to cancer and treatment, including exercise, nutrition and energy-conservation techniques.

The group is open to people living with cancer, as well as their spouses/partners, family members and caregivers. The session will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the conference room at the Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center at CMMC.

Kiwanis speaker

LEWISTON – Kathleen Demers, BookReach coordinator for the Auburn and Lewiston Public Libraries, will address the Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club at its Wednesday, Dec. 15, meeting.

BookReach is a community collaboration of volunteer readers who bring storytimes and books to children in area family child care homes. The luncheon meeting will begin at 12:05 p.m. at the Ramada Inn on Pleasant Street, Lewiston. Members and guests are invited.

AUBURN – Auburn AC Serve (SHARE), part of Serve New England’s food and volunteer program, will have Distribution Day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance.

Bird fanciers

AUBURN – The Northern New England Bird Fanciers Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St. Members will plan an appreciation luncheon for fair association participants.

All parties interested in the promotion and protection of various breeds of poultry, waterfowl and pigeons are welcome.

Refreshments will be served at noon under the direction of Gloria Beaulieu.

Choir concert

NEW GLOUCESTER – The choirs of the First Congregational Church will present the annual Christmas concert for the community at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19.

On the program will be favorite Christmas music, sacred and secular, with a guest appearance by the Back Bay Four, a local barbershop quartet.

The Sanctuary Choir and God’s Little Voices are directed by Beth Barefoot-Jones, minister of music. A free will offering will be received to support the church’s music ministries. Concert-goers are invited to stay for refreshments in the vestry after the concert.

The church is located at 19 Gloucester Hill Road, in the Lower Village. A wheelchair-accessible entrance with parking is located between the sanctuary and vestry. Call the church at 926-3260 for more information.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Dec. 7 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Dick Horne and Nancy Lindgren; third, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin. Another game will be played at the center at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on Dec. 8 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Flight A winners were: first, David Lock and Martine Begert; second, John Hackett and Ray Sirois; third, Don Smith and Katie Love; fourth, Fred Letourneau and Sherry Hinckley; fifth, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin. Flight B winners were Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Another game will be played at Schooner Estates on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Those attending are reminded to bring tables and chairs.
