Hunting and fishing licenses for 2005 are available at city clerks’ offices in Lewiston and Auburn.

Licenses are required for all Maine residents 16 years old or older hoping to hunt or fish in Maine.

A fishing license is required to fish in inland waters of Maine, while a hunting license permits hunting of all legal species with a firearm or with a bow and arrow.

All 2005 game licenses expire Dec. 31, 2005.

Adult archery hunting license applicants must show proof that they have completed an archery safety course or show proof of having held an archery hunting course.

Students 10 years old or older must buy junior hunting licenses before hunting. No one under age 10 may hunt wild animals or wild birds with a firearm at any time.

Family and friends may purchase hunting or fishing licenses as holiday gifts.

Buyers must know the hunter’s name, mailing and street address, date of birth, hair color, eye color, height and weight.

Any buyer must provide proof of possession of a prior adult firearms license issued since 1976 or successful completion of a hunter safety course.
