LEWISTON – The speaker at the Thursday, Dec. 16, meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will be Auburn Fire Prevention Officer Gary Simard.

He will talk about the juvenile fire-setter intervention program at the noon luncheon meeting at the Ramada Inn. Anyone interested in knowing more about Rotary is invited to attend. Cost of the luncheon is $8.

Next week’s meeting, on Thursday, Dec. 23, will be the annual Christmas dinner. Friends and family of members are welcome to attend.

VFW meeting

LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 and Auxiliary will meet at noon Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. A lunch will be served after the meeting.

Singalong

TURNER – Joan Ricker will hold the annual singalong program at the old Turner Townhouse in Turner Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23. Jean Gilbert will play the piano and Meredith Bigg and Ira Allen will lead the singing.

Hot chocolate, mulled cider and cookies will be served and there will be a visit from Santa Claus. Everyone is welcome.

There will be a Christmas Eve candlelight service at the Turner Center Universalist Church at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, under the direction of Dr. Larry Catlett with songs by the choir and the Sunday school children. Everyone is welcome.

LISBON – VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary will hold a Christmas party at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at the post home, Route 196. Snacks will be available, and members can bring something to share. The party is being held to thank everyone for their support. Those wanting details can call 353-5291.

Volunteers needed

FREEPORT – Volunteers are needed for the 2005 Freeport Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 17. Volunteers of all ages can do a variety of projects such as washing school buses, knitting hats and scarves for those in need, making food for the hungry, cleaning windows at the historical society and visiting with nursing home residents.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Freeport High School, with a kick-off breakfast and a keynote address by former Maine Attorney General James Tierney. Volunteer activities will be completed by noon. LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 13 were: first, Lucille Bilodeau and Roger Briggs; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; third, Anna Vitiello and Randy Silver; fourth, Charles Bartlett and Paul Beegel; fifth, Cynthia Bonsey and Janice Wolfe; second in C, Jeanne Plourde and Joe Conley.
