LOVELL – The Lovell Historical Society will hold a holiday open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at the historic 1839 Kimball-Stanford House.

As part of the festivities, an assortment of holiday goodies in the bakeshop will be offered along with a hospitality table with free cookies, punch and tea or coffee. Children are welcome as Santa Claus has promised to attend and will be available to hear their holiday wishes.

The open house also marks the opening of the permanent collection of the society’s new museum. The collection features 18th and 19th century furniture, maps, portraits and household artifacts. Many are from Lovell homes, while others are of the period.

The museum will ultimately recreate a Lovell farmhouse of the mid-19th century, with periodic special exhibits emphasizing different aspects, events, people and periods in the history of Lovell.

Historical features of the house are identified for visitors, so the house itself is the centerpiece of the permanent collection.

Raffles will be held on the following: $100 gift certificate to the Center Lovell Inn, 14K gold snowflake earrings by Harvest Gold, or a $100 gift certificate to Lovell Hardware. Tickets are $5 for a book of six or $1 each. The drawing will be held at 3:30 and tickets may be purchased at the event.

The house will be decorated inside and out. The Kimball-Stanford House is at the corner of Routes 5 and 5A.
