PORTLAND – The annual “Solstice Serenade” concert will be presented at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress St. at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17.

The winter solstice concert provides an evening of renewal and reflection during this time of long nights and short days, organizers said.

Singer-pianist Rebecca Wing is the featured artist of the evening. She will weave her familiar songs with songs that are written especially for this event. As part of the tradition for this concert, she will improvise a song using words and phrases provided by the audience, words that reflect the wishes and aspirations of those attending. Wing will also feature the release of her new CD, “Unfolding.”

Joining will be Matt Hansen on bass, Herb Dark on percussion, and Hannah Mans and Kathy Slack on vocals.

Admission is $12. Tickets are available at the door or reservations can be made by calling New Edge Events, 286-1427. Reservations are suggested, since the event is popular and seating is limited, organizers said.
