BRUNSWICK – The Brunswick Shambhala Meditation Center will offer a five-week introductory class, “Turning the Mind into an Ally,” at 19 Mason St.

The class, which is open to beginning and experienced meditators, will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11. The first meeting will be a free open house, which includes meditation instruction followed by group discussion and refreshments.

Meditation, study and discussion will be based on the book by Sakyong Mipham, “Turning the Mind into an Ally” (Riverhead, 2003). The class will meet through Feb. 8.

The Brunswick/Portland Shambhala Meditation Center is a nonprofit organization and serves a wide area from Portsmouth, N.H., to Farmington, to Camden. It is affiliated with Shambhala International, a worldwide nonprofit association of meditation centers founded by the Venerable Chgyam Trungpa. Shambhala International is headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
