SAN DIEGO (AP) – The San Diego Chargers hadn’t lost a game since two weeks before Halloween, so the day-after feeling took a little getting used to.

The Chargers’ eight-game winning streak – their longest since 1987 – ended on Sunday when they blew a 15-point fourth-quarter lead and lost 34-31 in overtime at Indianapolis.

“I think a lot of guys woke up this morning and realized they don’t like that feeling,” quarterback Drew Brees said Monday.

San Diego (11-4) clinched the AFC West a week earlier, so the loss didn’t have the sting it could have.

But the Chargers, heading to the playoffs for the first time since 1995, have plenty to learn from this one.

The offense sputtered in the fourth quarter, and Brees was intercepted in the final seconds of regulation when he overthrew Antonio Gates. Linebacker Steve Foley acknowledged that some defenders were out of position late in the game.

The Chargers allowed an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Dominic Rhodes right after they went up by 15 points.

After playing Kansas City on Sunday, the Chargers will have a short week before opening the playoffs at home.
