MEXICO – The newly hired director of the Region 9 School of Applied Technology will attend his first meeting Tuesday night.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the River Road school.

David Driscoll, a former director of the St. Croix Regional Vocational Center in Calais, began his new job late last month.

The board is expected to set times for interviewing prospective architectural firms for two major projects that are planned. One project would bring the existing building up to code, and a second to add about six new classrooms.

Driscoll said the school received eight applications from engineers or architects for the projects.

Also on the agenda is an update on the school’s self-study led by staff members Peter Barlow and Jen Stevens. The study, which is closely related to an accreditation plan, will list the school’s programs, buildings, staff qualifications and numerous other data. Driscoll said the final written report should be ready in January for presentation to the Department of Education.

Other agenda items include action on Driscoll’s position, which will now include business manager duties, action on student and staff handbooks, and reports from student services and adult and community education.
