AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA has expanded the water aerobics schedule to seven classes a week. There is now a class from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Monday through Friday and a class from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Erin Gendron, YMCA aquatics director, said, “Water aerobics is a great way to exercise. Exercising in the water is beneficial to the bones and joints by allowing the water to break any impact. The water also acts as a resistant when moving through it, allowing the muscles to work a level that is desirable for each individual. In the water the more you move – the more you work. Water aerobics is a great exercise tool for people of all fitness levels.”

Research continues to show the benefits of exercise – no matter what a person’s present level of fitness. Benefits include controlling body weight, increase in muscular strength, correcting and preventing postural deviations, maintaining organ efficiency, improved endurance, increased flexibility, relieving tension, learning to relax, increased social communications, and lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
