PORTLAND (AP) – The body of a woman who had been in a guest room at the Eastland Park Hotel for at least a day before investigators found her had died from blunt force trauma, according to an autopsy completed Wednesday.

Maxine Witham, 35, of Rockport, was found about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Detectives arrested David Haraden, her boyfriend, on unrelated charges. Police would not say whether Harden was a suspect in Witham’s death.

Haraden was in the room when police officers arrived and found her body, said Portland Det. Lt. Vern Malloch. He was arrested Tuesday night and charged with violating probation in Massachusetts for drunken driving and assaulting a police officer in 2003.

“We can’t say that David is a suspect,” Malloch said. “What we’re saying is that he was in the room with her. He was aware she was dead.”

Harden also violated terms of his probation in Maine, where he was convicted of violating conditions of his release after being arrested for assaulting Witham earlier. He was being held in Cumberland County Jail without bail.
