OXFORD – Former Republican State Committee Chairwoman Kathy Watson will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, Jan. 11, meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee at the Oxford Advent Church.

The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a 6:30 spaghetti supper, followed by the business meeting and speaker.

Election of officers for the next two years will be held and plans for the Lincoln Day Dinner, scheduled for Feb. 13 in Rumford, will be discussed. All area Republicans and interested residents are invited.

At the Dec. 14 meeting of the county committee held at the Norway Congregational Church, newly elected State Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello (R-Poland) was the featured speaker.

A former state representative, she provided details on how she was able to defeat the Democratic incumbent, Neria Douglass, to pick up a seat in the State Senate. She also discussed some of the major issues facing the new session of the Maine Legislature.

During the business meeting, State Committeewoman Becky Kendall of Bethel reported on the State Committee meeting where Randy Bumps was selected as chairman.

State Committeeman Stan Howe of Bethel reported for the Nominating Committee, announcing a slate to be voted upon at the January meeting. The Lincoln Day Dinner Committee also reported on the Rumford location for the annual dinner.

Brief remarks were made by several legislators. A ham dinner was served at 6:30 p.m. by the Hannibal Hamlin Women’s Republican Club.
