AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, for Instruction Night. Honored guests will be State Deputy Jim Meserve and State Junior Deputy Judy Meserve.

AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. Members will renew their obligation and the landmarks will be read. The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:15 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.

Birding trip

LEWISTON – Even in the harsh winds and snows of winter many birds can be found in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Maine. Join Dan Marquis of the Stanton Bird Club from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, on a trip to the Back Cove area of Portland and shores of Cape Elizabeth to discover the rugged winter bird species.

Participants can expect to see ducks, grebes, geese and gannets. It is free. Dress warmly and bring a lunch. Meet at the Staples parking lot in the Promenade Mall in Lewiston to carpool.

The Stanton Bird Club is a conservation organization offering free monthly natural history programs and field trips throughout the state. The club welcomes new members whose dues help to provide land stewardship at three sanctuaries owned and managed by the club in Lewiston and Monmouth.
