RUMFORD – To promote the prevention of flu spread in the face of this year’s vaccine shortage, the staff at Swift River Health Care and Elsemore Dixfield Center are sponsoring a coloring contest for children each month for three months.

The contest uses flu prevention cartoons from the federal Centers for Disease Control. About 75 children entered the first month’s contest.

The first monthly winner in the age 2 to 6 category was Miriah Marston, daughter of Leah and Mike Marston of Dixfield. Miriah, 6, attends kindergarten at Dixfield Elementary School.

In the age 7 to 10 division, the winner was Stephanie Garcia of Rumford, daughter of Steve and Denise Garcia. Stephanie, 10, attends Virginia Elementary School.

The contest is open to all area children, ages 2 to 10. The coloring pages are available at Swift River Health Care on Franklin Street, Rumford, and Elsemore Dixfield Center, Weld Street, Dixfield.
