CARTHAGE – Carthage Historical Society will hold its 11th annual business meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Carthage Town Office building, preceded by a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m.

The speakers will be Gail Parent and Joyce Morgan, co-authors with their siblings of the recently published book, “Once Upon a Farm,” stories of growing up on a family-owned dairy farm in Western Maine during the ’30s and ’40s. Parent is a local story teller. Morgan still lives on the farm purchased by their immigrant parents immediately before the Great Depression.

Everyone is welcome.

Concert series

RUMFORD – Franc D’Ambrosio will appear at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Muskie Auditorium as the second concert in the Rumford Community Concert Series.

D’Ambrosio starred in the San Francisco production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award winning musical, “The Phantom of the Opera,” where he performed the role for six years and in 1998 earned the title “The World’s Longest Running Phantom,” having performed the role more than 2,600 times.

A representative of the Rumford Community Concerts Association will be available at the concert to assist anyone who would like information on how to join. Memberships are $35 for adults, seniors $30, $10 for students and family memberships are $75.

Society to elect

MEXICO – The Mexico Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Calvin Lyons meeting room at the Town Hall. A potluck supper will be served.

Election of officers will be held. Nominations will be received from the floor. Members will discuss ways to enlarge the fund to install a ramp for the handicapped, also an elevator lift so all can see displays on the second floor.

Speaker will be Lem Cissel. His subjects will be the “Pennacook Arts Center” and scrapbooking, which ties in with doing family histories.
