LEWISTON – New things are happening at the 100 Pine Street Social Center. There may be people singing along with the karaoke, playing beano, doing some type of crafts or watching movies on the newly acquired DVD/VCR player. A snack bar is being put together to serve food more often than on Fridays. All the changes and more have been the result of the work of the Futures Group.

The center is for people dealing with a mental illness who want and need the support of people like themselves. The center is a part of the Common Ties Mental Health Coalition. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 1 to 5 p.m. holidays. The center is located at 100 Pine St. on the first floor of the Kelsey Building.

The center, in conjunction with Common Ties and the board of directors, convened a work group to make recommendations for the club. The recommendations are being implemented.

The club Futures Group is proud of the work it has done in responding to the wishes of members. Anyone wishing more information should contact Cheryl at 100 Pine Street Social Center, 795-6719 or e-mail 100pine@gwi.net.
