BETHEL – A Maine wildlife biologist is scheduled to open the Mahoosuc Land Trust’s Local Knowledge series of programs next week.
Andy Weik of the Migratory and Upland Game and Bird Program for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is to conduct a presentation on Maine’s wild turkeys, titled “What Good is a Snood? Ecology and Management of Wild Turkeys in Maine.”
The free event at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the Trustees’ Auditorium in the McLaughlin Science Center at Gould Academy, is to be a multimedia presentation of wild turkey ecology, restoration and hunting in Maine.
“His videos of turkey trapping and transfer activities have fascinated audiences statewide,” said Mahoosuc Land Trust member Frank A. Vogt of Bethel.
Future dates and programs of the popular series include:
• Feb. 20, McKay Jenkins, author of “The Last Ridge: The Epic Story of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division and the Assault on Hitler’s Europe.”
• March 16, Tim Glidden, director of Lands for Maine’s Future.
• April 20, award-winning wildlife photographer and author Jennifer Loomis on bluebirds.
