LEWISTON – The Lewiston Friends Meeting (Quakers) will sponsor a free showing of a one-hour video, “Invisible,” at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, in the Parish Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, Spruce Street.

The film, about Native Americans in Maine, was made in 2004. The video, in which persons from the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Micmac and Maliseet tribes talk about their negative experiences of schooling and government and their strong family connections, should spark discussion.

Seniors meals

AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. Members should take their cups and table utensils for the spaghetti dinner, after which bingo will be played.

Tickets will be on sale for the Wednesday, Feb. 16, Valentine Party and there will be a sign-up sheet for the Thursday, Feb. 17, brunch.

On Jan. 5 the club met and played bingo. Trip Chairwoman Joyce Poole announced many trips for 2005. If interested, call her at 784-3429. Attendance winners were Lucy Cowles and Gerry Timberlake. Pot of gold winners were Annette Lee, Annie Demers and Normand Poulin.

Church speaker

TURNER – Pastor Nate Colson will speak on the life of Hezekiah Smith at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 23. at the Turner Village Church, Main Street.

History says the Christians of New England owe much to this man’s ministry. Smith’s influence as a church planter from the 1700s to 1800s in Maine and New Hampshire were profound. He was born on Long Island, April 21, 1737, and died on Jan. 22, 1805.

All are welcome to attend the lecture. People are invited to appear in 1800s dress. Refreshments will follow.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Jan. 11 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Leslie Buzzell and Lucille Theriault; second, Peter Cummings and Nancy Lindgren; third, Luke Merry and Joe Reinhardt; fourth, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; fifth, Eleanor Abraham and Helen Little.

Flight B winners were: first, Luke Merry and Joe Reinhardt; second, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; third, Eleanor Abraham and Helen Little. Flight C winners were: first, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; second, Eleanor Abraham and Helen Little. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.
