LEWISTON – A continuing teaching on Pope John Paul II’s encyclical “Ecclesia de Eucharistia” (Church of the Eucharist) will be presented by Sister Elizabeth Madden from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 22, at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, 253 Main St.

Madden is a member of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, which is a contemplative, non-cloistered eucharistic community with spiritual ministries in the Catholic church.

She has completed studies in theology, scripture and spirituality and is certified in Ignatian spirituality and direction. In addition, she is serving as vocation director for the U.S. Province of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament and was appointed spiritual director of the recently initiated Perpetual Adoration Program for the Catholic Parishes of Southern Maine.

All who are interested are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served starting at 10:30 a.m.

Quilting class

MONMOUTH – The Cumston Public Library Association Books and Summer Programming will sponsor a “bow tie” quilting class from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 2 through March 30, at the lower level of the library, Main Street.

Instructors will be Nancy Ludewig and Jeri Kahl, and the cost is $20 for nine weeks. Photos of the block may be seen and an informational sheet may be picked up at the library.

The bow tie pattern is simple enough for beginners and fun enough for experienced quilters. With a simple turn of the bow tie block, a different design can be made. Create one block for a pillow or many blocks for a quilt of any size.

For more information, call 933-4788. The library is wheelchair accessible.
