Pvt. 1st Class Michael A. St. Hilaire graduated from Army Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., on Dec. 16.

During the nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

St. Hilaire received an award for exemplary performance in physical fitness training and rifle marksmanship.

Members of his family traveling to Fort Leonard Wood to celebrate his graduation included his father, Michael St. Hilaire Sr., mother, Dinah-Marie Ducharme, brother, Marcus St. Hilaire, and grandmother, Leola Bouthot.

Immediately after Christmas, St. Hilaire returned to Fort Leonard Wood for advanced individual training in heavy machinery mechanic. Upon completion of his training, he will join his unit, the 133rd Engineering Battalion.

St. Hilaire is a 2004 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn and plans to attend Edinborough University in Erie, Pa., to major in animation while serving as a soldier in the Army National Guard.
