ROXBURY – A gathering was held on Nov. 13 to celebrate the 95th birthday of Sister Yvette Mercier, Sisters of Presentation of Mary, at the home of her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gotto, on Nov. 13.

A buffet, including a birthday cake, was served. Games were played and there was lots of catching up on family happenings.

Mercier is living in Methuen, Mass., where she leads a full life, doing good for those around her. She said she is going to retire now, but was planning events when she returned home.

Seniors elect

DIXFIELD – The Neighborly Senior Citizens met on Jan. 19 at the Legion Hall with 75 present. A poem was read by President Connie Tutlis in memory of Clem Murphy, Rita Buotte and Rowena Robinson, followed by a moment of silent prayer.

A get-well card was signed for Glen Tripp and a sympathy card signed for Eleanor and Robert Dunham. Celebrating anniversaries were Ralph and Connie Spencer, 26 years, and Richard and Janice Swan, 54 years. Celebrating January birthdays were Sandra Martin and Freda Arsenault.

Election of officers was held with the following elected: president, Connie Tutlis; vice president, Marjorie Harlow; secretary, Carol Gallant; and treasurer, Larry Kerr. The new trip sheets were passed out. Following a potluck dinner, entertainment was furnished by the Silver and Gold Band, Louise Parker, Maurice Melanson, Stanley Palmer and Ned Desroches. Door prizes were won by Frank MacDonald and John Bernard.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, with a potluck dinner followed by entertainment by Ned Desroches and Friends.

There is still space available on the Feb. 25 trip to the Cumberland Civic Center for Disney on Ice; March 14, St. Patrick’s at the Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, N.H.; April 7, Lac Megantic; April 28 and 29, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. For more information, call Connie at 364-4189. The trips are also open to nonmembers. Membership in the Neighborly Seniors is open to anyone age 50 and over. Dues remain $5 a year.
