Book scholarship

OXFORD – The Thompson Lake Environmental Association would like to offer a $500 book allowance to two qualified high school graduates to help purchase textbooks at any chosen college. The association will award the money to students interested in environmental studies or related fields for the 2005-06 college year. To qualify, students must write a letter of application that reflects their goals in college and the future. Application forms are available at the guidance office of area high schools. The application form, letter and a transcript of grades to date should be mailed to the TLEA. Letters should be submitted by March 15 to TLEA Book Allowance Committee, P.O. Box 25, Oxford, ME 04270.

Hartford meeting

HARTFORD – The town Road Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Town Hall.

Democrats meet

NORWAY -Patrick Colwell, chairman of the Maine Democratic Party, will be the guest of the Oxford County Democrats at an informal lunch discussion from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Fare Share Commons, Main Street. Colwell will discuss plans for the Democratic Party in Maine and important issues in the legislative session. This event is open to those interested in electing Democrats. Grief program

LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center and Androscoggin Home Health will offer a Guidance Through Grief program from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 1 through March 8, at CMMC, 300 Main St. The program is designed to help those struggling with the loss of a loved one to navigate the emotional waters of grief. Through open discussions, group exercises and optional assignments, participants, along with facilitators, explore grief as a process, learn ways for dealing with practical concerns, identify stress and pain management techniques for survivors, and discover ways for finding hope and comfort. The program is offered three times a year; winter, spring and fall. Due to the nature of the program, new participants may only join a group up through the second session. The program is always offered free of charge to the community or anyone interested in participating. SAD 72 workshop

FRYEBURG – A SAD 72 board workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Molly Ockett Middle School on Route 302.

HARTFORD – The town Waste Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Town Hall.

Book delivery

WATERFORD – The Waterford Memorial Library is now offering the Homebound Delivery Program. Books will be delivered to residents of the town who are unable to travel to the library due to illness or other circumstances. A library volunteer will deliver the books to program participants approximately every three weeks. Books will be renewable by telephoning either the library or the volunteer. Residents who would like to sign up for the program should call the library at 583-2050. Library hours are from 2 to 6 p.m. Mondays, 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Woodlot workshop

PARIS – A six week workshop for woodlot owners will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Topics will include tree ID, deeds and boundaries, timber harvesting, wildlife management, forestry taxes and regulations, and working with a consulting forester. Pre-K Club

HARRISON – The Harrison Elementary School will begin its Pre-K Club again this year with four meetings scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 3, March 3, April 7, and May 5. If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten next year, join the Pre-K Club to make new friends, learn literacy activities and meet teachers. A light dinner will be provided at each meeting.
