RUMFORD – Catholic Schools Week 2005, “Faith in Every Student,” is being celebrated this week by St. Athanasius and St. John School.

The week began at the 4 p.m. Mass Saturday when Bishop Richard Malone was present. Students made a special presentation to their pastor, the Rev. Angelo Levasseur, of more than $1,300 to the boiler replacement fund, which they had raised in four days by bringing in loose change.

On Monday representatives from each classroom visited the newest community leaders and presented them with a gift bag of sweets. On Tuesday, everyone in the school dressed up for Pajama Day and played bingo in the parish hall.

The school held an open house on Wednesday when the second- and third-grade students led a Mass for Candlemas and the Presentation of the Lord, and candles were blessed according to tradition.

The school will attend a field day, sponsored by PATHS, at Black Mountain on Thursday, and on Friday “Prayer Partners” will attend the adoration of the Eucharist, then share in activities back at the school.
