OQUOSSOC – The Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association announces a winter raffle to warm the hearts of all area sportsmen. In cooperation with Orvis, shopping sprees are awaiting three winners.

The holder of the winning ticket will participate in a $1,000 visit to Orvis. Tickets are on sale at River’s Edge, Oquossoc and Rangeley Region Sport Shop in Rangeley or at the club’s booth at sportsmen’s shows in Wilton on March 25, 26 and 27 and the Augusta Civic Center, April 1, 2 and 3. Profits will be dedicated to saving the Rapid River.

In other business, members voted at their January meeting to donate $100 to the Sportsman’s Association of Maine for its new kids’ program, a magazine, Outdoor Kids in Maine.

Members also voted to accept the recommendation of the club’s board of directors and support legislation to permit Sunday hunting in Maine. The vote came after members were assured that the bill before the legislature exempts Sundays during deer season. There would continue to be no Sunday hunting in November. In addition, the association is not supporting the state’s proposal to expand parking facilities and access to Sandy River Ponds.

The next meeting, open to everyone interested in the outdoors, will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at the clubhouse on Old Skiway Road. A 5:30 p.m. potluck supper will precede the business meeting and speaker.
