FARMINGTON – The Feb. 3 meeting of Farmington Emblem Club 460 started with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. President Rebecca Powell called the meeting to order at 7. There were 41 members present, with a total membership of 129.

Americanism Co-Chairwoman Avis Mahoney asked members for a silent prayer for soldiers in Iraq. Nancy Chase, community service chairwoman, circulated a photo of the triplets that the club had held a baby shower for earlier this year. After their birth, the babies had to stay in the hospital for quite a while but now are doing well.

Memories were shared of deceased member, Barbara Hinkley. The club voted to donate to the neonatal center at Maine Medical Center each January in Hinkley’s memory.

Shannon Smith told members that the Mt. Blue Middle School cheerleaders placed first in a recent competition. The PeeWee cheerleaders placed first also.

Smith reminded members of the valentine dance to take place Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Elks Lodge. The evening will begin with a spaghetti supper from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. followed by dancing to the Legends band from 8 to midnight. Tickets are still available.

The club on Sunday, March 13, will hold its annual basket beano at the Elks Lodge. Members can help fill the baskets at Smith’s home at 6 p.m. Feb. 17.

Members voted to have literacy Co-Chairwoman Diana Oliver purchase children’s books for use at a local day care center. A donation will be made to a member of the Emblem Club to help with expenses of traveling to be with her husband, who is hospitalized.

The Elks and Emblem variety show participants will begin practice for the spring show at 6 p.m. Feb. 27. All club members who are interested in appearing in or helping with the show are to contact Connie Small.

The 50-50 raffle was won by Marge Bernier and the mystery gift by Judy Lane.
