PARIS – Principal Joe Moore has announced his intention to keep his job at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

Earlier this month, Moore visited Cony High School in Augusta, where he had applied for the job of principal. At a SAD 17 board meeting this week, however, he announced that he will not be leaving.

“I was pleased that when he announced at the board meeting Monday night that he was going to stay, he got a round of applause from everyone,” Superintendent Mark Eastman said.

Continuity in leadership, Eastman added, “is critical to school improvement.”

Moore could not be reached for comment Friday.

Augusta School Department Superintendent Cornelia Brown was not available.

Eastman said Moore has been looking for some time for a position closer to his home in Monmouth because his commute to Paris is more than an hour each way.
