AVON – Lauren Duvall of Strong was the winner of the doll castle raffled off by the Zone Coalition on Dec. 11 at the Avon Community Center. The castle, a plastic needle point structure, was furnished right down to the accessories for the fireplace. The castle accommodates Barbie-size dolls.

Beverly Haines of Avon made the castle. Janne and Jerry Haines, also of Avon, bought the castle during an auction at the Haines family reunion and donated it to the Zone Coalition for fund-raising.

The castle was raffled off during the foul shoot at the old gym during Old Home Days in Phillips and was won by Larry Pinkham of Phillips, who donated it back to the Zone Coalition to help with more fund-raising.

The Zone Coalition, an offshoot of the SAFE Zone, was formed with the intention of revitalizing the spirit of Avon, Madrid and Phillips through the collaborative development of a community center to benefit the well being of all who live there.

Fund-raising efforts continue with renovations on the old gym to begin in 2005. Anyone with questions about the project or who would like to help should call Ginni Robie at 639-2713.
