FARMINGTON – Fairbanks Union Church will sponsor a homemade fish chowder luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at the church. The chowder will be served with biscuits, cheese, pickles and homemade apple pie, all for $5.

Support speaker

FARMINGTON – The Franklin Memorial Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 1, in the Allen Room at the hospital. The support group is for women who have or have had breast cancer.

Eileen Liddy, a nutritionist at Healthy Community Coalition, will discuss “Nutrition Tips.” Rita Porter, R.N., care support nurse, and Audrey Brown, physical therapy aide, will facilitate. Light refreshments will be served. No appointment or registration is required.

The support group, offered in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the Healthy Community Coalition, is a free service of the hospital’s Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center. Each meeting features presentations of special interest, as well as a time of sharing personal experiences and concerns.

Trapper course

AVON – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a trapper education course from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 11; Monday, March 14; and Wednesday, March 16, at the Opportunity Center of North Franklin County on the Avon Valley Road.

The course will cover trapper safety, communicable diseases among animals, fur management, trap setting, laws, ethics and survival skills. Upon successful completion, participants will receive certification.

A bow hunter education course (for certification) will also be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 4, 6, 8, 11 and 13 at Mt. Abram High School. The course will cover safety, responsibility and ethics, equipment and laws, first aid and wilderness survival. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The instructor is Rick Rogers.

Registration fee for each class is $10 payable to SAD 58 Adult and Community Education before the start of class. Size is limited to 20 students, so early registration is suggested. For more information or to register, call 678-2701, ext. 226.
