WATERVILLE – “Air & Water,” a Bennett Dance Company production that takes dancers from 18 feet aboveground to underwater, will be presented at Colby College at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Strider Theater.

Known for taking physical risks, dance company members Christine Bennett, Andrea Blesso, Mary McCarthy, DeAnna Pellecchia and Ingrid Schatz leave the ground in the first half of the show via a large rope net that’s 26 by 18 feet. The dancers navigate the web-like terrain and swing on the ropes.

Choreographer Bennett and visual artist Michael Dowling also produce exciting visual imagery as dancers hover above and float in a 4-by-4-foot, water-filled copper pool.

In 1996 Bennett, the artistic director, founded Bennett Dance Company, an organization committed to using dance as a collaborative art form. The company’s performances blend modern dance with sculpture, photography, martial arts and original music.

General admission will be $3; admission for students and seniors is $2. For ticket information, people may call the box office, 872-3358, between 5 and 7:30 p.m.; or call 872-3388 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. today.
