LEWISTON – Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, in partnership with the Range Ponds Environmental Association, will work in the Middle Range Pond watershed in Poland on a two-year program to control erosion.

A Clean Water Act grant was recently awarded to the conservation district by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, USEPA-Boston and the Maine Department of Agriculture. It will fund workshops, technical assistance and construction projects throughout that period.

The objective of the program is to preserve water quality by reducing the amount of soil, sediments and associated contaminants that are washed into Middle Range Pond from public and private roads and private properties. Conservation practices not only protect soil and water resources, but can also lower maintenance costs and enhance property value.

Property owners throughout the watershed are encouraged to contact the conservation district office at 753-9400, ext. 400, if they are interested in participating in grant activities, receiving technical assistance or installing conservation practices.
