AUBURN – St. Dominic Regional High School Principal Michael Welch announced, “Your honor, the mayor” and the assembled student body stood as Lewiston Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. and Lewiston Youth Advisory Council members Katie Lauze and Kelin Sevit entered the gym.

All eyes focused on the podium as Guay explained they were there to present the February Mayor’s Citation of Excellence.

The recipient was sophomore Jacob Adler, who was recognized for his neighborly spirit and sense of “community.”

Guay said, “Jacob, you stepped forward and demonstrated much initiative by providing extensive snow removal for a member of our community following his recent multiple surgeries. You also provided kind words, a smile and a gentleman’s handshake, expecting nothing in return. Young people like you who respond when others are in need are truly an inspiration to all of us.”

Nominations for the March citation are due in the Lewiston mayor’s office by no later than March 11. A one-page nomination of a Lewiston youth must focus on an action or accomplishment deemed as “extraordinary” or “above and beyond” that has occurred within the last two months. Nominations may be sent to Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr., 27 Pine St., Lewiston, ME 04240 or lguay@ci.lewiston.me.us.
