CANTON – Rose Shink was honored at a 100th birthday party at Victorian Villa on Feb. 13. She turned 100 on Feb. 9.

“Memere Rose,” as she is affectionately called, had the attention of 34 members of her family. She received two bouquets of roses and close to 100 cards from family and friends wishing her well. Cards came from Canada from nieces and nephews of her 15-plus siblings, of which she is the last surviving.

Shink, formerly of Jay, was honored with acknowledgments of her 100 years from the Maine Senate and Gov. John Baldacci. She was served cake and ice cream and had photos taken with each family unit. A five-generation photo was taken of Rose, Robert, Ronald, Jonathan and Cassidy Shink.

Those attending were sons and their wives, Robert and Winnie Shink, Bernard and Gladys Shink, Mike and Maurie Shink; grandchildren, Donald Shink and wife, Sarah, Marc Shink, Ronald Shink and wife, Kathy, Derek Shink and partner, Claire Despres, Linda Desjardins and Tracey Doiron, Brian Shink, James Shink and wife, Colleen, Scott Shink and wife, Lori; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Mallory Doiron, Mason, Cassie, Nate, Justin and Aron Shink, Jay Becker, Jonathan Shink and wife, Abby; great-great-grandchild, Cassidy Shink; and a nephew and his wife, Damien and Giesele Perreault.
