AUBURN – The annual meeting of Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
A potluck supper will be held preceding the meeting at 6:15 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend.
Lenten lecture
LEWISTON – Following the noon Mass on Thursday, March 10, the weekly Lenten lecture and luncheon will be held in St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.
The speaker will be the Rev. Michael Seavey, pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish. His topic will be “The Eucharist and a Just Society.”
Seavey attended Portland public schools and graduated from Portland High School. He earned a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Southern Maine, master of arts in public public policy from the University of Minnesota and a master of arts in divinity from Pope John XXIII Seminary, Weston, Mass.
Council meeting
AUBURN – Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Odd Fellows Hall, Elm Street. Installation of officers will be conducted with PC Robert Hutchinson being installed as senior counselor. After the meeting, members and guests will dine at the Village Inn at 6 p.m. For reservations, call Hutchinson at 783-0451.
Welcome home
AUBURN – Mechanics Savings Bank dressed up the home office at 100 Minot Ave. with the help of Webster Elementary School students to welcome the troops of the 133rd. Bank staff called the school for help, and in two days, Webster mustered enough pictures created by the students to cover seven windows with “Welcome Home,” “We Love You” and “We Missed You.”
Bridge play
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on March 7 were: N/S, first, Pete Cummings and Dick Allen; second, Martine Begert and Les Buzzell; third, Eleanor Griffin and Paul Beegel; fourth, Betty and Doug Sise.
