BUCKFIELD – People from four surrounding villages gathered at the Buckfield Community Church on March 4 to observe the World Day of Prayer. The material used was provided by the Church Women United from Poland where 95 percent of the people are Roman Catholic. It was a compilation of material from Baptist, Methodist Lutheran, Reformed and several Catholic churches.

Leading the hour-long service was the Rev. Linda Kimball from the Congregational Church of East Sumner. Assisting were members from the East Sumner church.

After the inspirational service encouraging women and men to respond to Jesus’ challenge in the Sermon on the Mount, “Let Our Light Shine,” refreshments were served by the women of Buckfield Community Church.

Guests came from Canton, Hartford and Livermore churches.

Church Women United was founded in 1941 and is an ecumenical movement reaching 25 million Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women.
