AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer a plumbing code course, starting March 15, that will prepare eligible participants for the master/journeyman exam.

The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 12; there will be one Saturday class from 8 a.m. to noon on April 16. The cost is $545 and includes all materials.

Participants should bring a nonprogrammable calculator and package of liquid accent highlighters. The instructor will be Roy Tetreault, who has more than 30 years of experience in plumbing.

The course is designed to prepare the craftsperson who is interested and eligible to take the state plumbing examination. The next testing date is May 14.

The following topics will be covered: Code general and understanding of the internal plumbing rules; installation practices, methods and materials; drains, vents and sewer installation, alter, repair and sizing; water supply and backflow prevention; special wastes and roof drains; proper installation of fixtures and trim; excavation procedures; and OSHA requirements; inspection and testing; knowledge of applications and permit fees; and alternate systems of plumbing.
