GORHAM, N.H. – The White Mountain National Forest is offering a free guided hike to Tuckerman Ravine from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12. Join interpreters from the U.S. Forest Service and Appalachian Mountain Club to learn about the environment on Mount Washington and meet Forest Service snow rangers in the ravine.
The hike is a moderate-to-difficult five-mile round-trip. Participants should meet at AMC’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Route 16, 11 miles south of Gorham, at 9 a.m. dressed for the weather, and bring lunch, snacks and water.
A free evening program will follow. “Snow Rangers on Mount Washington,” will be presented by Brad Ray and Chris Joosen at 7:30 p.m. at AMC’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. The program will include a slide show and discussion about history, management challenges, search and rescue, avalanche awareness and safety, with stories of the ravines and time for questions and answers.
The White Mountain National Forest will host a Forest Festival on Aug. 25 at the base of the Mount Washington Auto Road. Plan on joining in this day-long celebration and enjoying the activities, booth, tours, and more.
