LEWISTON – Lewiston Adult Education is offering the following classes to help residents prepare for spring:

“Boating Safety”: Learn basic navigational skills and boating safety. The class will be presented by the USPS Kennebec River Power Squadron from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks beginning March 15.

“Fly Fishing”: A registered Maine guide will share tips and techniques on reading water, wading and casting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays for seven weeks beginning March 23.

“Golf for Beginners”: Participants will learn the fundamentals of grip, stance, swing, chipping and putting as well as the rules of the game. Two sections will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays or Thursdays for six weeks beginning April 5 or 7.

“Tennis for Beginners and Advanced Beginners”: Emphasis is on developing and improving individual skills: forehand and backhand ground strokes, serve and overhand volley. Classes will be held from 5:45 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays beginning April 5.

“Get the Most Out of Your Maine Garden”: Learn how to extend a garden’s growing season by sheltering plants from cold weather in spring and during fall. The class will be taught by a University of Maine Cooperative Extension master gardener volunteer. It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23.

“Spring Ahead in the Garden”: Learn simple tips for getting the yard and garden off to a good start. The class will be taught by a University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service master gardener volunteer from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31.

“Container Gardening”: Learn how to grow flowers, vegetables and fruits in a small area using containers. The class will be taught by a University of Maine Cooperative Extension master gardener volunteer from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28.

“Daffodil Garden Tour and Composting Class”: Visit an Auburn garden with thousands of daffodils in bloom and learn the basics of composting from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 12, or 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14.
