TURNER – Classes on the winter/spring schedule for Greene, Leeds and Turner Adult Education are under way and there are openings in many.

“Heartsaver Infant, Child, Adult CPR and First Aid”: March 14, 16 and 18 and April 11, 13 and 15. At the end of this class participants will receive a two-year certificate for basic first aid and CPR. Students will receive a book and CPR mask.

“Beginner Dog Obedience”: Six-week class beginning on March 14. Correction of behavior problems will be offered. Required leashes and collars need to be approved by the trainer or can be purchased from the instructor.

Driver education with Karen’s Driving School: Three sessions remain for the semester beginning on March 14, April 11 or May 16. Students must be 15 on the first day of class. It consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of driving. To register for the classes, call 783-7483.

“Sewing Machine Repair”: A one-night workshop on March 16. Learn how a stitch is formed, how to adjust the stitch tension, how to make basic adjustments, what causes a stitch to skip and what causes needle breakage. Participants can bring their machine with them.

Boston day trip: March 19. A day of shopping in Boston or the annual flower show at the Bayside.

“Tae Kwon Do for Children”: Six weeks beginning March 21. Students will be taught basic movements and forms. The class is open to all ages and students should wear comfortable clothing.

“Maine Driving Dynamics”: Class 1, March 22 and 24; Class 2, April 26 and 28. The five-hour course offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. It includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. The format engages students with lectures, videos and class discussion/participation. Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record.

“Color Your Face Beautiful”: March 30. Learn more about the how-to’s of skin care.

“How to Sell More without Sounding Like Everyone Else”: A three-hour program on March 30. Developed by Sandler Training Institute, it will cover such topics as differentiating a business, uncovering the reasons people buy and exploring the hidden strengths and weaknesses of salespeople.

“Creative Twist Basket”: April 4. Transform a paper bag into a “hand-woven” basket that can be filled with dried flowers or anything else. Participants need to bring two colors of creative twist and a glue gun.

Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Screening: April 5. St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center offers individuals the opportunity to learn more about their health and receive immediate feedback. Blood pressure and total cholesterol along with HDL and LCL are measured via the finger stick method which provides the small blood sample for testing. In addition, individual risk factors are reviewed and recommendations are offered. Pre-registration is required.

“Tatting”: Learn to shuttle tat from an international award winning tatter during the five-week class, which begins April 7. All the basics will be taught. Materials will be discussed at the first class. A small project will be worked on in class.

“Basic Elevator Rescue”: April 9. The eight-hour class is for anyone who works for a fire department, volunteer or paid. Steve Fish, chief of Turner Fire Department, and Pat O’Connor of the Providence, R.I., Fire Department will teach the proper way to rescue people trapped in elevators.

“Creative Twist Doll”: April 12. Participants need to bring two colors of creative twist and a glue gun.

“Par101: Good Discipline, Good Kids”: April 27. Learn how to engage cooperation, set rules, expectations and limits, problem-solve, utilize alternatives to punishment, accept and respect children’s feelings and manage anger.
