MEXICO – There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, March 14, at 3 Pleasant St. regarding a car show to be held during the Moontide Festival in July.

The Moontide Car and Truck Show had the biggest turnout last year, with 78 vehicles. Anyone with ideas for the show or who would like to volunteer should attend the meeting.

Also on July 2 there will be an ATV and snowmobile show, a new event for the Moontide Water Festival. Owners of motorcycles are also being invited and encouraged to go to the festival to show their bikes. First, second- and third-place trophies will be awarded in all the events. Historical society to sample chocolate

CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in the town office building. Following a potluck supper there will be a short business meeting. Pam West, chocolatier and owner of Mountain View Chocolate Shoppe in Farmington, will tell about the chocolate candy business and she will bring samples.

Crossland Farm history to be shared

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in the Municipal Building Conference Room on Congress Street. The speakers will be Gail Parent and Joyce Morgan, who will share some of the history of the Crossland Farm as they remember it.

The sisters grew up on that farm in Mexico and have written a second book about their memories, “Once upon a Farm II.” The second volume was published in 2004, following the first book that was published 11 years before.

President Bill Weston will lead discussion on the coming Maine Hysterical Society, former local talent who are returning to give a benefit performance for the Jane deFrees scholarship. The show will be held Saturday, March 19, at the Muskie Auditorium at the Mountain Valley School.

Class of 1948 plans meeting

RUMFORD – The women of Stephens High School class of 1948 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Island Cafe, Congress Street. Call Maddy at 364-7235 if planning to attend.

Special night at Black Mountain

RUMFORD – Ski Depot, Demo and Wing Night will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Black Mountain of Maine. Live music will be provided by the Hooligans from 8 to 8:45 p.m. and 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge. Proceeds will benefit Black Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol.
