PARIS – Lions International encourages each local club to sponsor a Speak-Out contest for local high school students to help them develop public speaking skills. Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School has three students participating: Chris McVety, Brandon Pike and Amanda Ivey. Richard Merz, English teacher, is their coach.

The Speak-Out contest for the Lions Clubs in the Oxford Hills area will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church, South Paris.

The Lions Clubs of Norway-Paris and Harrison are sponsoring the contest. Students are asked to prepare a five-minute talk on a current topic that is of interest to them. They will be judged on content, delivery and timing. Each student will be asked two questions at the end of their presentation.

The winner of the Oxford Hills Speak-Out will be invited to participate in the Lions Club District 41L Convention in Lewiston in April.
