LEWISTON – Lewiston High School senior Adam J. Wilding’s mouth opened wide followed by a hearty smile upon hearing Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. announce on March 15 that he was the recipient of the March Mayoral Citation of Excellence.

Guay, along with Lewiston Youth Advisory Council members Ryan Reed, Kelin Sevit and Ally Beaucage, entered Elizabeth Fisher’s classroom at 9:30 a.m. to present the surprise citation.

The citation was presented to Wilding in recognition of his outstanding athletic, academic and community achievements. As a result, applause broke out among his fellow students, along with a “Way to Go, Adam” shout from Assistant Principal John Bouchles.

Guay said, “Adam, congratulations on your recent Channel 6 Varsity Club recognition and for assisting with the winning goal on March 9, 2005, resulting in the Lewiston High School Hockey Team being in tonight’s Class A State Championship. In addition to athletics, you are also commended for your academic excellence and your contributions to many endeavors, such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters.”

The citation program is a partnership between the Lewiston Mayor’s Office and the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, and nominations for the April Mayoral Citation of Excellence are due in the mayor’s office by no later than April 8.

A one-page nomination of a Lewiston middle school or high school youth must focus on an action or accomplishment deemed as “extraordinary” or “above and beyond” that has occurred within the last two months. Nominations may be sent to Guay, 27 Pine St., Lewiston, or via dottie@ci.lewiston.me.us.
