NORTH BERWICK (AP) – Parents of students at Noble High School are angered that school officials failed to tell them a student had been suspended last week for sending an e-mail to another student that included threats to more than 50 other students.

Principal Christian Elkington said officials were informed of the threat last week, suspended the student and notified parents of students specifically identified in the e-mail.

As word of the threat spread, parents of other students called to voice their concern. “Most of the phone calls are based on wanting more information and questions about why didn’t you let everybody know,” he said.

Elkington, who has not identified the student, said it was “an irresponsible prank,” and the student apparently culled the names randomly from a yearbook. But he said he understood why parents were concerned given recent events.

Earlier this week, a student at Red Lake High School in Minnesota killed nine people and wounded seven. It was the nation’s deadliest school shooting since the Columbine High School rampage in Colorado in 1999, which ended in the deaths of 12 students, a teacher and the two teen gunmen.
