HARTFORD – There will be a bag sale of good winter clothing, a well as many other items, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Hartford Clothing Center on Church Street. Spring and summer merchandise will be available. All proceeds are used for charitable purposes.

Civil War program

LOCKE MILLS – The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at the historical building at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, when Nathan Cheever of Poland will give a program on Civil War artillery. Everyone is welcome.

Team sign-ups

SUMNER – Softball sign-ups for the summer teams will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 2 and 9, at the Sumner Town Office. Players may also sign up at the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School.

Girls from Sumner and Hartford between the ages of 7 and 18 are eligible. The cost is $10 a player. Checks should be made out to the town of Sumner.

VFW supper

NORWAY – The VFW Post 9787 and Auxiliary met on March 2. A potluck supper was followed by a special guest speaker, Edie Guyer, a representative of Responsible Pet Care in Norway.

Guyer has raised $15,000 for the spay and neuter clinic at the shelter. Local veterinarians have been donating equipment and time. The shelter is still taking donations for the clinic.

The next VFW meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 6, with a supper to precede the meeting at 6 p.m. Members are asked to bring casseroles or desserts.

All veterans and their spouses are invited.
