FARMINGTON – Police handled nearly 30 accidents Monday in Franklin County as snow fell steadily until about 3 p.m. before changing over to rain in Farmington.
Weather observer Dennis Pike said about 4 inches of snow fell in Farmington before it changed over.
Pike, who is also Franklin County sheriff, said the roads were extremely slippery and people tended to lose focus on driving during the bad weather.
Franklin County dispatchers were extremely busy, Deputy Aaron Turcotte said.
A Phillips woman was injured when the pickup truck she was riding in left Route 4 and went down an embankment near Irving Lumber and Chandler Road, Turcotte said.
Driver Robert Frizzier Jr., 60, and his wife, Annette Frizzier, 68, both of Phillips, went about 25 feet down the embankment in the truck after he lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the northbound lane, Turcotte said.
The truck came to rest against a tree, he said.
Farmington and Strong firefighters responded to the scene.
Firefighters used a rescue basket to pull Annette Frizzier up the embankment, Turcotte said. She was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by LifeStar ambulance, he said.
Another woman was injured in an accident on Route 2 in New Sharon near Gage Corner, Turcotte said. No other information on that accident was available Monday afternoon.
