LEWISTON – April is International Community College Month and the mayors of Auburn and Lewiston have proclaimed it Community College Month in the Twin Cities.

The proclamation also congratulates Central Maine Community College for “over 40 years of leadership in preparing the people of our communities for high-skill, high-wage careers and lifelong learning; supporting the economic development and vitality of our cities through service to business and industry; and enriching the entire community by sharing its resources with all our citizens.”

For its part, the college has planned a number of events on its campus, to which the public is invited. For more information, contact the college at 755-5100.

The following events are planned during April:

April 1: Job Fair, Kirk Hall Gym, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 50 businesses, many of which will be taking applications for employment, will be represented. Anyone looking for summer, full-time, part-time or temporary work should attend.

April 2: Open house, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn about the college’s 30 programs of study and receive information about admissions and financial aid. Refreshments and door prizes. Nationally-known wildlife artist David A. Footer will give attendees a signed print, “Catch and Release.”

April 6 and 7: International Film Series, Kirk Hall Auditorium, 7 p.m. “To Be and To Have” (French with English subtitles). About a dedicated and gifted teacher whose world is a one-room schoolhouse in the French countryside. Cost is $7.

April 8: Graphic Arts/Machine Tool Expo, Jalbert Hall, 10 a.m. to noon. Students from around the state will exhibit top projects in graphic arts and machine tool technology, including some prizewinning entries. Industry representatives will also show their work.

April 8: Arts Portfolio Fair, Kirk Hall Gym, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Area students will present portfolios of their work for review by a panel of established artists.

April 9: Parenting Matters Conference (Advocates for Children). Contact Advocates for Children at 783-3990.

April 13: Geshe Lobzang Tsetan, founder of the Siddhartha School Project, Jalbert Hall, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Talk on the Siddhartha School, Buddhism, the situation in Tibet.

April 16: Maine Garden Day. Contact Cooperative Extension Service at 353-5550.

April 27: Poetry reading with Wes McNair, Jalbert Hall. Midday.
