BETHEL – An entertaining educational evening will be held Thursday, April 14, as a fund-raiser and to introduce the Western Maine Girls Association’s new program, the Tapestry Project.

The Tapestry Project is a program designed for middle school girls that will combine physical activities, art and discussion.

The activities planned for the evening include watching, “Killing Us Softly,” a documentary on advertising’s influence on girls and women. A short discussion will follow on how to counter the images.

Participants will then see a dance by Debi Irons of Art Moves. The evening will be capped off with dessert and a silent auction. Some of the offerings include a handmade book by Sarah Shepley, a massage, pen pals and an annual exam.

The evening is designed for older teens (16+) as the movie is not appropriate for younger children.

The Western Maine Girls Association’s mission is to promote programs for girls that enhance self-worth, nurture connectedness, foster community and respond to the needs of growing girls of all ages. Other programs includes the Girls on the Run program a running program for third to fifth grade girls that will be in six elementary schools throughout Oxford and Androscoggin counties this spring.

Anyone who has questions should call Kate Goldberg, director of the Western Maine Girls Association, at 824-3459.
